Koshka’s Journal #18
The last book has been placed in the library of Barovia. Gluney forced us to fight him of course and kill him we did but not before he made some allusion to both himself and Jack working for this Ouroboros time god. The second time this name has been mentioned so perhaps Koshka should pay it some heed.
This library was a bit different than the others. To confirm Koshka’s suspicions of this whole place having life, the library contained a giant heart, pumping blood to nowhere, ruining several books. Koshka refused to enter, there was no point in stopping the placement as Vurrie’s death means the future Koshka saw cannot come to pass. Thus it must have been some evil trick of the Darklands, trying to split our parties loyalties. It matters little which path we take now, Koshka is certain there is no way out for her.
But on to other matters; On the way out of the library we were met by another of the Darkland’s proprietors. He spoke of some half truths, a plan and an escape but Koshka knows better than to listen to that now. He cursed the others again, something Koshka has come to expect, the others do not seem surprised either. From here we returned to the Vistani camp and after a failed attempt to bargain with them Z destroyed their valuables and wheeled homes, cursing them for their failure to aid our cause. Luck prevailed upon us however as in the town of Villaki we were able to find an old friend, Capt. Nate Tim. With his powers we were able to lift the misty border and escape Barovia and activate our old portal to Mordentshire.
Or should have. Waiting for us there was Ouroboros, having taken the city from us and replacing it with a new bay. This so upset O’beah that his mind fractured. He now splits his thought between his own and an old man by the name of Fitz. He possibly has others in there as well, only time will tell. Koshka is now more than a little concerned about the sessions that man gave her, how sane can an insane man make one?
We contacted Alonzo by magic who informed us he would meet us at the O’Verdon in 3 months time. While we wait for him we must consider carefully how to proceed. Without a reliable magic source, Fec hardly being so, the road ahead may be difficult. Fec, as Koshka mentioned him, is some retarded orc who has somehow gained ownership of a shop and the ability to imbue magic into items. Communicating with him is difficult however as even if he is granted the gift of speech he speaks only his name with slight intonations. More complex orders will be a challenge. One… bit of news is that Vento has returned to us in his own body with the aid of O’beah, whom upon unlocking the secrets of some black orb given to him by Ouroboros seems to have a measure of his sanity back but less of his body. This group is becoming difficult to show in public. Kurt recoils at both sunlight and holy medallions and his eyes have gone red, Z has grown extra fingers, black skin and feral claws and smells of rotted flesh, O’beah is nearly a ghost with stark white skin and hair with red eyes and is so haunted by a woman that she has willed herself from ghostly apparition to mortal being it seems. Koshka can say no better for herself, having been reviled for her fur before anything odd had occurred. Vento is perhaps the most normal in appearance of any of us now, appearing only as an old man. Koshka is sure that his will change soon, nothing here remains the same for long.
