Koshka’s Journal #10
With Elijah dead, Vurrie found and the box in our possession, there is but one thing left for us to do; Bring Jack into the world. There are but 3 things stopping us; the last puzzle piece, the riddle, whatever it is we do when the riddle is answered. Luckily, we accomplished all of these things, though through great trial.
First, we attempted to follow the compass, but to no avail, and then we tried to contact Gluney only to have him try to kill us. He failed at this and was taken away by the Red Death for his trouble. We then ran into Alonzo, looking more devilish than ever, who also claimed not to have the box and confirmed that Elijah had 3 pieces, not 2, not 5 mins before we killed him. Based on this information we decided to search the house of Elijah again and Z was able to find it, thank the gods.
Second, we now had the riddle to consider, having recovered the last piece “the poor have it” we set our minds to the task but it was ultimately again Alonzo who had the answer. Nothing. Koshka was loathe to accept that Alonzo, yet again, was right. How… fortunate, we are to have him in our presence. Koshka does not perceive this as an accident.
Lastly we are left with filling the box with nothing. As air is apparently not nothing we were forced to find something else which is nothing. Drawing the air out of the box with fire was unsuccessful and thus we were forced to, again, credit Alonzo’s theory, pure negative energy. He postulates that if life is everything, than death must be nothing, the absence of everything. He further postulates that pure negative energy is the embodiment of death. This strains Koshka’s beliefs but, as fate seems to be laughing at Koshka, he was proven right again.
Alonzo has he reasons for helping us of course, he wants Jack here, so that he can kill him. It is Alonzo’s belief that Jack currently resides in Midrath in the future. If we were to summon him here and kill him it would create a paradox so vast that time itself would begin to unravel. This in turn would force a god of time to arrive to right the wrong. A time god, Alonzo supposes, would have the power to take us to a different time, either before we entered this cursed world or after we exit it. Exactly how Alonzo expects to use a god Koshka is unsure and she does not believe him. But for now it matters not, our course is the same. We must summon Jack, and for that we need a source of death so concentrated and pure that it actually manifests on to this realm and there is only 1 such place…
We made our mad journey to Il Aluk in the heart of Darkon to face Death. What drove us there Koshka could still not say but it was what had to be done. Nowhere else could we find the pure, tangible force of the unlife but from Death itself. Meeting Death did not prove a challenge at all, we walked unchallenged through the streets of Il Aluk, past the undead living out their daily lives if one could believe it. They shopped, they worked, even drank at the bar. Each oblivious to these travelers in their midst, Koshka has never seen the like and will never see it again if there is any right to this world at all. Death was not obliging to give of itself however, and here Koshka did nearly die.
Through quick action and hearty souls we did steal from Death what it is we needed. With the box full of that pure death essence, a shockwave of mist rippled through the city, taking Death with it. And possibly years as well as the very stone around us appeared to have aged. But outside the castle there was our reward; The Library. With a second pulse from the box The Library sprung to life and sent out a beam of light to the heavens. A lone figure stepped out onto the balcony and brought forth a swarm of books and pages that formed into the shape of a mighty dragon. The figure leaped out upon it and rode that literary nightmare straight to us. Jack, had finally made it out of his prison and into ours, and he is very pleased for it.
